1. Sep 15: Finland's Egalitarian Shadow: What we can Learn from Finland's Education System? : Singapore's Education system is the envy of the world. But so is Finland. What can we learn from them?
2. Sep 16: Not in Jesus Camp: But what if they took over? The voices of the Christian Right in Singapore is getting louder. From an anti-gay lobby to a creationist picture, could they take over policy making? I doubt it, but what if they did?
3. Sep 19: Unrepresented Litigants in a Complex system: Are Lawyers' Fees to Blame?. Lawyers have a bad name in Singapore due to the Media playing up bad lawyers. But are greedy lawyers the reason why there are so many unrepresented litigants? Or are there more complex reasons?
4. Sep 21. The Disapproving 70 percent and how decriminalizing sex between male will change attitudes and win votes. Here I argue that if the Government should decriminalizing sex between males and that might lead to a change in attitude.
5. Sep 24: Our Social Identity: What the State Tells Us we Are : Here I observe that the MOE's power to define what a "homosexual" is and what "education" entails, is a bulwark against "reasonable" arguments. Parents will naturally be worried if they accept MOE's definition of "homosexuals" and "education". The real challenge is to ask the MOE and Parents to see things from another perspective.
6. Sep 28: Woman and Progress: a history of unhappiness : Just some thoughts about how woman have generally been unhappy.
October 2007
7. Oct 6: Hijacking the Debate? Are Middle Class Concerns now at Forefront of Compulsory Annuities I argued that the CPF annuities debate has been hijacked and has now morphed into a middle class debate on how much CPF should pay them. There are very little sound arguments coming from the critic why CAS is a bad thing - especially for the poor and old. All is talk about increasingly their returns on their CPF. Pity the lower income groups. With friends like these, who needs enemies?
8. Oct 8: First World : A good article and some thoughts on social control. I described some thoughts after reading Bernard's article on how Singapore is not first world because the state is not easing control. I suggest that it is not the state but the community.
9. Oct 19: A response to "A quiet contemplation": A paragraph contemplated. Here I response to a FO's paragraph in his article and describe how only a Hobbesian view of "tolerance" with certain underlying assumptions will perceive signing petitions and making a stand against those who oppose gay rights as "intolerant" behavior.
10. Oct 20: Respect Differences: Some thoughts on the Keep "377A" movement. I describe why I oppose the retention of Section 377A of the Penal Code and express my dismay at opponents of 377A. It is sad that they treat other human beings so badly.
11. Oct 26: Of Oranges and Milk . What if Sodomy was Oranges and Milk was Vanilla sex?
November 2007
12. Nov 01: Taxi Touting: Greed and Naivety: Enforcement but is the underlying problem resolved? Here I argue that people who are against "touting" do not eee the big picture. The truth is, in Singapore, it is the Mercedes Cabs Drivers who tout and they tout because they have to pay a higher rent, but increasingly cannot "earn" that premium they pay without touting.
13. Nov 02: Eavesdropping : Sex and Abstinence I basically describe a rather strange conversation I overheard between two girls about sex, God and abstinence.
14. Nov 04 An Eventual Gambling Problem : Insights from Genting. There is nothing really new here. Most people who are concerned about Gambling know how bad the situation can become in Singapore because of the casinos. Here I gave an example of how we are already acting in Genting and give suggestions on how these problems can be mitigated.
